What is the Dave Finch Memorial Series? Who was Dave Finch? Dave took part in clubruns, organised training sessions, rode the club time trials and attended the clubroom regularly. His forte was hilly events. For most of his time with the club Dave lived at Whitchurch Hill and worked in Benson - making full use of his daily ride to work. He was employed by the MOD at RAF Benson; managing a graphic design office. Later Dave became manager of the television studios at the army establishment in Beaconsfield. He moved to Burchetts Green when he was promoted and redployed to the Army Education establishment at Beaconsfield. He used to train army personnel in the techniques of TV interviews. He moved from Whitchurch to Burchett's Green and continued to ride to work on a daily basis It was in September 1982 that Dave was struck behind by a motor vehicle while climbing White Hill (between Loudwater and Holtspur on the A40) and was killed. He was 46 years old. The driver pleaded that he was blinded by the rising sun but, as far as I can remember, was short of essential documents like insurance. In view of his popularity and his ability in hilly time trials a memorial trophy was purchased and dedicated to the series of hilly club time trial events. What do I have to do to qualify?
