Gorrick Autumn Classic Off-road Race

Reading CC's Brian Bingham reports from the Gorrick Autumn Classic MTB race #2 at Crowthorne Wood which took place on Sunday:
"As there was no cyclo-cross race last weekend I decided I would give the Gorrick Autumn Classic a go instead, and it is only 5 miles away from home. My MTB skills are a bit rusty so I opted for the veteran male category which required only 3 laps. I rode a lap before the race to check for any surprises and yes there were definitely some technical moments! After a 2-minute silence at 11am the race was off. There was a good mix of all levels of rider and I found myself in the midst of the pack. A lot of single track and full-on concentration for 90 minutes left my arms as well as legs aching afterwards. I got caught out by some sticky downhill tight bends of single track in the trees, waddling through it like a duck! The famous Corkscrew was good fun and near the end of each lap so that something to look forward to. It was a great course and a well organised event - my congratulations to the Gorrick organisation! "
