We had another very successful Clive Pugh Memorial 25 mile time trial on Sunday 12th August on the H25/8 course near Bentley. This is regarded as quite a fast course and many riders were eager to set a good time. There were 74 riders, including one tandem, six ladies and one junior (our own Chris Tomsett). The conditions were good with only a light wind and even some sunshine at times.

Reading’s Huw Dymond had the honour of setting off at number one and set a very good time of 59m 50s, beating the magic ‘hour’. There were three other Reading riders, Martin Cairns set an excellent time of 58m 44s, Rod MacFadyen recorded a strong 59m 52s and Chris Tomsett recorded an excellent 1h 02m 45s at 17 years old! These very strong performances enabled Reading Cycling Club to win the team prize.

The event overall was won by James Gilfillan in a time of 52m 8s and the winning lady was Elizabeth Brama in a time of 1hr 2m 55s.

The event ran well due to the help of many volunteers from the club, in particular thanks go to the ladies who provided the splendid food and served endless cups of tea and coffee – Marielle Patterson, Sarah Tomsett and Mary Lomas.
