Wordle: AW Cycles / Reading CC Spring Road Races Sunday April 26th sees another running of our popular Spring Road Race for 3rd and 4th cat riders on the Woodcote/Goring circuit. Like previous years, this is run simultaneously as a joint promotion with the AW Cycles E/1/2 Spring Road Race.

The event HQ is at Woodcote Village Hall, Reading Road, Woodcote, Oxfordshire. Spectators are welcome at the HQ where there will be excellent refreshments, or by the roadside around the circuit.

The Elite, 1st and 2nd Cat race will have places available for entry on the line (£15). The race starts at 9.45am. The 3rd and 4th Cat event has a full field with a reserve list, and starts at around 10.15am after the E/1/2 race has completed its first lap.

The Reading race (3/4/W/J) organiser is Colin Bates: 15 Oakley Road, Caversham, READING, RG4 7RL. 0118 9482414

The AW race (E/1/2) organiser is Tim Bedingfield: 32 Fallows Road, Padworth, READING, RG7 4GX. 01189 712135

The 3/4/W/J event has a full field of 80 riders and a list of reserves. See the 34WJ start list here. Entry on the line will be available for the E/1/2 event. You can see the current E12 start list here. Enter using a standard BC Entry Form.

The circuit is approx 20km [Google Map]. E/1/2 do 6 laps (120km), 3/4 do 4 laps (80km). Woodcote to Mongewell is a fast sweeping downhill. North Stoke, South Stoke to Goring is rolling open farmland often with a cross-wind. From Goring there is a steep 12% ramp leading to a steady 3%-5% rise to Goring Heath and a rolling road back to the start. HQ & start is in Woodcote Village, and the finish will be a flat sprint back into the village, as used in the 2007 Spring Road Race (see photo below).

James Norris (High Wycombe CC) wins the 34WJ race in 2007. The 2009 race will use the same finish as 2007.
