Time Trials

Reading CC new member Jeremy Laming blitzed his previous personal best
time in racing round the H25/2 Marlow 25-mile course at the weekend.
Laming recorded an excellent time of 56:53 for 16th place in an event
won by AW Cycles John Tuckett in a startling 49:06.

Laming commented, "It was a day for fast times and I had a great ride.
This was the first time I have broken the hour so I was very happy
especially as I felt quite within myself (for a change). This has put me
in a great position coming into the triathlon season in a few weeks
time, and I'm looking to unleash my new found biking ability at the
Windsor triathlon in early June." Laming is a triathlete who has joined
Reading CC to improve his cycling - a plan that is already working.

The race was marred by a crash involving Reading's Steve Bale who came
off his bike in avoiding a car that had pulled out onto a roundabout. To
his credit Bale completed the event but he suffered extensive grazing.
Several other Reading CC riders completed the course without incident.

Reading's Tuesday evening TT was held on the Bucklebury course in
constant heavy rain. The weather accounted for a low turnout but good
times were recorded with Nick English coming out on top. Result:

1. Nick English 40:04
2. Simon Notley 41:47
3. Jeremy Laming 42:40
4. Stephen Millward 47:55

Circuit Racing
Reading's indomitable veteran racer Wayne Thomas had a quiet week due to
suffering with a cold. He reports. "I raced at Cranfield on Saturday but
had no legs. It was a tough course made worse by a crosswind and there
were too many 2nd cats stirring it up! I retired after 45 minutes. I
raced again on Sunday in a Surrey League event at Elstead. Another tough
course and I was dropped on the second climb on the first lap. I
persevered for 1hr 45 mins with one other rider but was pulled out with
7 miles to go. My cold did not help but maybe I just have no race-pace
climbing legs!"

Sunday Clubrun
Social, medium and fast groups depart from Reading Market Place at 9am
every Sunday.
